On 20 August 2020, the IPC-IG, together with UNICEF’s Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) and UNICEF’s Country Offices in Afghanistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, held a webinar titled “Profiles of the social protection systems of Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan prior to COVID-19 and snapshots of their responses to the pandemic”. The recording is available here.

The speakers Usha Mishra, Chief of Social Policy, Evidence and Evaluation at UNICEF Nepal; Louise Moreira Daniels, Chief of Social Policy, UNICEF Sri Lanka; and IPC-IG researchers Isabela Franciscon and Beatriz Burattini discussed various aspects of the social protection landscapes before COVID-19, as well as how countries have adapted their social protection systems to provide responses to the ongoing crisis. The UNICEF presenters also discussed potential paths ahead. The session was moderated by Nienke Voppen, Cash Based Assistance Programme Specialist, at UNICEF Afghanistan.

This was the fourth webinar of the Series ''Social Protection in South Asia – the landscape before COVID-19, and a snapshot into responses to the crisis and the paths ahead'', jointly organised by the IPC-IG, UNICEF ROSA, and UNICEF Country Offices. The next session will take place on 24 September 2020 and will discuss the pre- and post-COVID-19 social protection responses in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bhutan and Maldives will be showcased on 22 October 2020.
